Child protection officers take pledge on ‘Jan Andolan’ campaign to prevent the spread of Covid-19 at the Hotel Ura in Kohima on Monday.

Dimapur, Nov. 2 (EMN): State Child Protection Society, Child Protection Services and department of Social Welfare organised a training programme on “Implementation of Protection of Children from Sexual Abuse Act (POCSO) 2012” for district child protection officers at the Hotel Ura in Kohima on Monday.

District child protection officers play an important role in co-ordinating and supervising the implementation of the ICPS and all other child protection activities at district-level including monitoring and supervision of all child care institutions, projects and programmes. Therefore, the training was organised with the objective to enhance the knowledge of participants about various provisions in the POCSO Act, 2012, to be implemented at district-level, an update received here informed.

The training started with the participants taking a pledge on “Jan Andolan Campaign” to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

POCSO Act, which was enacted in 2012, is a comprehensive law to provide protection to children from the offenses of sexual assault, sexual harassment and pornography, while safeguarding the interests of the child at every stage of the judicial process by incorporating child-friendly mechanisms for reporting, recording of evidence, investigation, and speedy trial of offenses through designated special courts.

The Act was notified on November 11, 2016 in Nagaland and thereby Nagaland Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules 2017 was framed and notified on February 10, the update informed.
