Capt Kenguruse Memorial Football Tournament: Final showdown on Friday

Kohima, Sep. 19 (EMN): Defending champions Vanguard FC Tseminyu will face Nerhema Village FC in the final match of the 4th edition of Captain Kenguruse Memorial Football Tournament (state level) at the Kohima local ground on Fri. Sep. 21.

On their way to the final, Vanguard FC, the winner of the last year’s edition defeated Green Club Zunheboto 5-1 in their semi-final match, while overcame Kohima district champions Khriekesa FC 2-1 in quarters.

Vanguard playmaker Khiuwangbo Kaurinthat missed the final match with a match suspension and it will be a major blow for the team in the midfield area. The captain of Vanguard FC Yhanshalo Kemp is in fine form this edition scoring nine goals in four matches.

Nerhema FC defeated Naga Terriers Jakhama 2-0 in the semis and overpowered DGP team 3-2 in the quarters to enter the final. Left winger Salu Kulim has five goals in three matches for Nerhema FC.

The winner of the tournament will walk home with a cash prize of INR 1.75 lakhs while the runners-up will receive INR 80000. The two semi-finalists Naga Terriers and Green Club will each receive INR 25,000. The individual awards include player of the tournament, golden boot and golden gloves.

The organisers on Wednesday informed that the closing ceremony will begin from 12:15 pm onwards on Sep. 21 with Lieutenant General Abhay Krishna, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commander-in-Chief, Eastern Command as the special guest

The tournament is organised by the Assam Rifles in honour of the late soldier Captain Neikezhakuo Kengruse, Maha Vir Chakra who sacrificed his life for the country during the Kargil war in 1999.
