Diphu, June 27 (EMN): A businessman based in Diphu has given words to sponsor talented-underprivileged sportspersons from the Karbi Anglong district. He said that the decision was taken when he saw a boy with his father who was not able to afford the price of the football boots.

Tanmoy Kar owns a sports shop in the heart of Diphu town in Karbi Anglong district. Talking to Eastern Mirror Correspondent, Kar said that in the past he never thought about sponsoring or helping talented underprivileged sportspersons from the region. But he said that he would like to do it now even though he was not a tycoon. He said that he took the step on Fri. June 22 when a boy visited his shop with his father to buy boots.

“The father of the boy asked me about the price of the boots, I told him the lowest price of the boots was INR 500, to which the father started shedding tears saying he had only INR 300,” Kar said. Kar admitted that as a businessman he declined to offer the boots for that amount. The boy too started to bawl when Kar declined to give away the boots for the amount his father had.

Kar stated that both the father and son left without the boots. “The father promised to visit again on Monday or Tuesday after earning for the boots. He sells firewood in Diphu town,” Kar divulged.

Stating that he felt guilty at declining to offer the boots to the boy who needed much, Kar said that he decided to do something from then on. He affirmed, “From that moment I made a commitment to at least sponsor one talented underprivileged footballer in a year from our district in order to encourage upcoming talented footballers.”

According to Kar he informed former general secretary of Karbi Anglong Morningstar Football Club (KAMSFC), George Rongpi about his decision to sponsor underprivileged footballers. On getting to know his decision Rongpi suggested that that there was one talented underprivileged footballer from Hidipi by name Deuri Kro, who currently plays for KAMSFC. Kar admitted to handing over sports material to Deuri Kro on June 25, Monday at KAMSFC office in presence of KAMSFC’s General Secretary Bikram Teron.

“How much one can, socially one has to help talented underprivileged persons in the field of sports and education and that those who own a bookstall should also assist reading materials to talented destitute students.” Kar concluded humbly.
