Brillante: Piano festival promises pop and sparkle for music lovers

A piano festival dubbed the Brillante is to be staged at the RCEMPA in Jotsoma, near Kohima town from September28 to the 30. Brillante has a heart to celebrate piano music, performance and education, an update stated on Friday.
The event will have performances and demonstration and teaching. It will be a platform for local teachers and students to explore piano studies. Besides, the event will be an opportunity for all upcoming pianists to compete, the updates stated.
The concept and drive behind the festival is Khyochano Ngully, the festival’s director. An educationist and a mentor to musicians, she states that the event was “built with the future in mind where Nagaland can be a catalyst to building a thriving music community in the region,” the updates stated. She is director of Music Academy in Kohima and the local area representative of Trinity College.
Competition
The competition round of the festival commenced with 80 video entries from pianists all over the state vying for a spot at the live auditions, which was narrowed down to 35 by judges from the USA and the UK.
Fourteen pianists were then selected by local judges Sahu Peseyie, Ezono K John, Zingrin Shishak, Bethel Tsuzu and Khyochano Ngully, to represent the two categories of the competition (A for the age group 8-14 and B for the age group 15 and above. The semi final round will be conducted on September 28 while the finals will be held on September 30 when the winners will be announced.
Day sessions at the Nagaland Piano Festival will commence at 10:00am. The concerts are all scheduled for 5:00pm.
Guest artists
Russian concert pianist Tatyana Dichenko and jazz musician Pradyumna Manot Singh will be performing. They will conduct workshops along with local resource Nise Meruno, Yamaha Brand Ambassador, as well. There will be special appearances by renowned local musicians and upcoming talents as well.
The Music Task Force of Nagaland, Furtados India, Yamaha India, De Oriental Grand, YouthNet, and Le Connect have agreed to support the festival as event and resource partners, the updates stated.
