Breastfeeding, maternity seminar conducted in Mon

Dimapur, Aug. 10 (EMN): The Mon district administration organised a seminar on breastfeeding in collaboration with the Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) at Mon, and as part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, on August 7 at St. Mary’s High School.

The seminar was conducted as part of the Global Breastfeeding Week from August 1 to the 7th, updates stated on August 10.

The resource person for the event was Dr. Shasinle Tep. A mother should breastfeed her child for six complete months, the official said.

“Maternity leave of six months is given to every working mother in order to increase the bond between the mother and her child. Breastfeeding nurtures the child but as mother’s milk is considered as the best feed for a child,” the official was quoted as having told the gathering.

The district coordinator for the MSK, Neijoi Konyak highlighted the aims and objectives of the Mahila Shakti Kendra. She spoke about the schemes Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana and the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, the updates stated.

The Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, previously Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana, is a maternity benefit program run by the government of India. It was introduced in 2016 and is implemented by the ministry of Women and Child Development.

The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is a government-backed savings scheme that is part of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana for the benefit of the girl child.

Angun Lily Konyak, counsellor at Sakhi-One Stop Centre in Mon highlighted the services being provided by the centre, the updates stated.
