All India Congress Committee (AICC) media coordinator, Sujata Paul, on Friday claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will create “chaos and confusion” and ultimately destroy every regional party across the country, including Nagaland.

“It is not just a fight between BJP and Neiphiu Rio-led NDPP but a fight that BJP is indulging in to benefit itself and ultimately destroy every regional party in Nagaland,” she claimed, while addressing a press briefing at NPCC office in Dimapur.

Taking a dig at state BJP president, Temjen Imna Along and Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton, she said they were not able to handle the situation when the BJP karyakartas “created havoc” in Dimapur, adding that the “complete indiscipline amongst BJP workers is not spontaneous but deliberate, planned and staged”.

Paul added that Naga people do not want that ‘as the problem of Nagas will be sorted out by a government that understands the problems of Nagaland’.

Further, she went on to claim that the coalition government has not only let down the people of Nagaland but has “also exposed how weak the alliance is”.

“This is the reason why no infrastructure development has taken place, electric supply remains erratic, fluctuating and water supply is at its worst,” she claimed.

This is what happens when BJP comes to the peaceful land of the Nagas, she said, adding that ‘Naga identity should be the most important but the government has not only proved to be corrupt but also proved that it cannot give governance to people’.

‘The government is not bothered about the youth of Nagaland, and it is the most important sector,’ she said, adding that young people, who are apolitical, want a government that will give them employment.

She reminded that in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance broke as the latter was trying to bring down the regional party.

“Money power and muscle power is being used by the BJP. Mr JP Nadda had categorically mentioned the intention of BJP to finish off regional parties in Bihar after which JDU Chief Mr Nitish Kumar had broken the alliance and formed a new government with INC and RJD,” she said.

Paul said that Nagaland is made of regional parties along with a national party, adding that in a democratic country any party can come to power.  She said regional parties should be respected, but the current government is allowing the BJP to become ‘comfortable allies’ and gradually ‘get into their shoes’.

“And now, in the endeavour to oust the regional parties completely, BJP has also brought in its little recharge, the vote cutter Aam Aadmi Party. This is another proof of the BJP’s nervousness of losing. And another strategy to intimidate its alliance partners just in case they have to go alone into the elections,” she added.

Paul said that the “opposition-less” Nagaland Assembly has not been able to fulfil the promises that have been made to the people of Nagaland.

“Naga people make Nagaland, and every government must work for their people, young, old, women, men, children,” she added.
