Dimapur, Jan. 6 (EMN): Virtually kicking off a year-long development activity, the Nagaland state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a ‘farmers’ day out programme’ at Amisuba valley in Longjang village under Mokokchung district on January 6.
The Amisuba valley, which is on the banks of the Mening river, has been recognised as one of the most fertile areas in the district, and many farmers earn their livelihood from it.
The programme was initiated by the kisan morcha under BJP Mokokchung in collaboration with officials from different government agencies like the Agriculture and Water Resource departments, an update from the party stated on Wednesday.
It stated that the president of BJP Mokokchung, Imolemba Jamir, highlighted the importance of farming to improve economy in Naga context. Jamir, who is also an agriculturalist, told the prospective farmers to look beyond the village and cultivate vegetables so that they could export the excess products to other places, even beyond the state.
In the same vein, the BJP state vice president, Nukshi I Ozukum, challenged the farmers to look beyond farming, saying that they are the most respected and constituted vital pillars of the society. He further encouraged the farmers to look beyond the local markets for their subsistence.
SDO of Water Resources department, Putikokba, who was the resource person of the programme, highlighted the importance of conserving water in the valley. He also assured that the government would extend all possible support to the farmers.
The programme was attended by top officials from the BJP Mokokchung district.
