BJP candidate S Phangnon Konyak elected to Rajya Sabha unopposed from Nagaland
Dimapur, March 25 (EMN): BJP candidate S Phangnon Konyak has been declared duly elected unopposed to fill Nagaland’s lone Rajya Sabha seat after the last hour for withdrawal of candidature ended on Thursday.
Announcing this in a press release, the Returning Officer, Khruohituonuo Rio, informed that polling was not conducted as only one nomination was received. With the nomination paper found valid and withdrawal deadline expired, Konyak was declared elected.
Konyak, president of Mahila Morcha (women wing) of Nagaland unit, has become the woman member of the Upper House of Parliament from Nagaland.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took to Twitter to congratulate Phangnon Konyak on being elected and becoming the first Naga woman to represent Nagaland in the Rajya Sabha.
“I am confident that you will represent our state exceptionally well. I wish you the best for a successful tenure,” he wrote.
