The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national leaders arrived in Manipur on Monday to attend the flag hoisting-cum-election campaign launching ceremonies of the party’s candidates, including incumbent Chief Minister N Biren Singh, ahead of the assembly polls on February 28 and March 5.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in the morning to attend the flag hoisting-cum-poll campaign launching function of assembly speaker Yumnam Khemchand Singh, a BJP candidate for Singjamei assembly constituency.

He also attended a public meeting later in the day.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the function, Singh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always expressed his desire to develop the Northeast and has introduced many development schemes for the region after he became the PM.

He also appealed to the people of the state to elect at least 50 representatives in the upcoming assembly elections for a clear BJP majority government in the state.

Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju also has been camping in the state for the past two days and attending similar functions for BJP candidates.

Speaking on the occasion, Rijiju said Manipur is one of the blessed states in the country with so many talents.

‘The strength of the Manipuri people can win the health of anybody,’ he said while appealing to the people to re-elect a BJP government to serve the people better.
