Diphu, May 3 (EMN): Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) President, Chandra Kanta Terang on Monday said that, “Autonomous state issue is just an election tool for the BJP and this has been clearly indicated during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit at Loringthepi in Karbi Anglong district on April 28”.

He stated this during a press conference at ASDC Central Committee Office in Diphu.

Prior to the prime minister’s visit to Karbi Anglong, the ASDC had submitted a letter to DC, Dibakar Nath and requested to give time to submit a memorandum to the prime minister on autonomous state issue but there was no response. One day ahead of Prime Minister’s visit, we met the principal secretary, Mukul Kumar Saikia but as there was no response from both, we then went to meet the Chief Executive Member (CEM), Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, he said.

The Karbi Anglong NC Hills Autonomous State Demand Committee (KANCHASDCOM) also did not get a chance to meet the prime minister.

From 2014 till date, the BJP party has just been misleading the people and now, it has no more moral right and policy for autonomous state. The BJP’s stand on autonomous state issue has been clear and it is only for winning elections, Terang said.

Criticising the prime minister, the general secretary of ASDC, Jotson Bey said that Prime Minister Modi should have a sense of responsibility. The prime minister is the executive head of the country and should give time to meet the people, he added.

ASDC Propaganda Secretary, Daniel Teron said, ‘several thousands of people, who attended the prime minister’s programme at Loringthepi, returned home broken heart as nothing was heard about autonomous state’.

If the BJP is really serious about autonomous state, at least an audience should have been granted to any organisation demanding autonomous state but the prime minister chose not to meet any delegation of the organisation including ASDC seeking autonomous state. He went on to add that despite the negative attitude of the BJP government, the state movement will continue with new vigour even under inclement political weather.
