ATMA Sechü-Zubza, Longmatra blocks hold demonstration programmes

Dimapur, June 6 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Sechü-Zubza block conducted a field demonstration on package practices for soya bean and groundnut on May 31 at Mengujuma village.

The resource person, ATM Ketsivino Nakhro gave a brief introduction on the crops, its climatic requirements and land preparation for sowing, an update stated. Nakhro also explained various practices involved like the time of sowing, seed rate, method of sowing, weeding and irrigation schedules and time of harvesting. Soyabean, groundnut seeds and roban were also distributed to the farmers.

Another demonstration programme was conducted at Kiruphema on June 3 on topics practices for soya bean and groundnut and integrated pest management. The resource persons were Ketsivino Nakhro and Thejavizonuo Kelio. The resource persons spoke on the climatic requirements, proper land preparations and various practices involved in the cultivation of soyabean and groundnuts with hands-on demonstration on proper spacing requirements for both crops. Under integrated pest management, they spoke on analysing pest problems and determining and making appropriate recommendations using IPM techniques.

 IPM is an approach which involves integrating multiple control methods based on site information obtained through inspection and monitoring, it said.

 An on-site demonstration was also done on identifying predators. Soyabean and groundnut seeds along with bio-pesticides were later distributed.

Demonstration on poultry rearing and its management was also conducted on June 4 at Sechü-Zubza with farm school teacher and owner of Mor’s Poultry Farm School, Dr. Metsilhouthie Mor as resource person. He shared his knowledge and practical experiences that he learned from his farm. He explained in detail various management practices such as housing, feeding management, disease and precautionary measures in poultry farming. The programme witnessed the participation of a VFA, a farm manager from a nearby farm, a poultry farm owner, farmer friend of the village, farm school teacher, ATMA functionaries and participants, it added.

Meanwhile, ATMA Kiphire Longmatra block conducted demonstrations on brinjal cultivation; biopesticides and application of trichoderma on June 2 and 6 at Ngoromi  and Azetso village respectively. The block also inaugurated a maize farm school at Azetso village on Monday, where Thsopenthsi, a progressive farmer was appointed as the farm school teacher.

 Imnawati ATM trained the farmers on nursery bed preparation of brinjal and importance of proper soil preparation, transplanting and planting the saplings. Moakumzuk BTM highlighted the concept and role of a farm school teacher and also advised farmers to follow good management practices and timely plant protection measures for controlling FAW.  He also gave hands-on demonstration for preparing trichoderma mixture and solution for various treatments. A total of 20 farmers attended the demonstration programme.

Earlier, a demonstration programme on package practices of okra and French beans was also held at Ngoromi village on May 31, while also mobilising a farmers group named Asi CIG on cultivation practices of rice bean and maize. Later F1 hybrid seeds of okra, French beans, brinjal, maize shellers and Trichoderma harzianum were distributed to the farmers.
