ATMA officials sensitise farmers to curb FAW

ATMA officials demonstrating technique to curb Fall Army Worm infestation during a field visit in Botsa village under Kohima district.

Dimapur, July 3 (EMN): Team from Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Kohima, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) undertook a joint visit to Botsa and Zhadima villages on June 26 and 27. The ATMA team along with three KVK scientists interacted with the Food Security Group (FSG) and also visited the maize demonstration plot at Botsa village and orange farm at Zhadima village.
A technical session on Fall Army Worm (FAW) was taken up by Michael Pienyü, ACTO (Plant protection) KVK, wherein he shared about the history, origin, life cycle, nature of infestation, its severity and management techniques.

The resource person Zhiete, ACTO (Soil and Water Conservation) also encouraged the farmers on the use of bio-fertilisers with special emphasise on vermicompost and its nutritional contents.

It was followed with the field inspection, wherein the farmers have expressed satisfaction with the officials for the timely intervention on FAW. The technical session was followed with an interaction where the farmers were advised on crop rotation for successful ventures in their agricultural activities for financial stability.

Khekali, ACTO (Horticulture), apprised the farmers to maintain the orchard with proper planting systems and timely pruning of the plants. She urged the farmers to pay attention on stem borers of the orange plant as it could affect the whole orchard.
