Assam Rifles trying to retrieve a truck which met with an accident at Khonsa village on April 12.

Dimapur, April 13 (EMN): Khonsa battalion of the Assam Rifles extended helping hand in extrication of PHED vehicle which met with an accident. The vehicle veered off the road and landed on the roof of a house at Khonsa village under Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh on April 12.

A defence release stated that after receiving information about accident, a column along with recovery vehicle was pressed into service at the accident site. The column inspected the accident site and carefully extricated the vehicle without any further damage to vehicle or the house.

It added that the residents have expressed gratitude to the Assam Rifles.

In a separate incident, the Khonsa battalion of Assam Rifles averted a major fire incident which broke out at Wakka town in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on April 11.

It stated that the battalion launched relief column along with fire fighting equipments and medical stores. It added that the column successfully contained the fire from spreading to adjoining areas.

It stated that three houses and three shops were gutted in the incident, while three residents sustained minor injuries. It added that timely response of the unit prevented a major accident.

In yet another programme, Changlang battalion of the Assam Rifles conducted an awareness campaign against alcohol and drug abuse at Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on April 12 on the theme “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.”

The campaign was aimed at creating awareness among local population regarding the harmful effects of alcohol and drugs on personal health as well as on the society.

During the event, lecture on adverse impact of alcohol/ drugs was imparted to the participants. They were also informed regarding various rehabilitation centres established by the state government to overcome the menace.
