Assam Rifles man dies in Changtongya accident

Mokokchung, Oct. 1 (EMN): An Assam Rifles truck carrying CSD goods veered off a road and crashed-landed at High School Road, Changtongya, on Saturday evening, killing one naik subedar in the mishap.
Changtongya police reported that an Assam Rifles truck bearing registration number AS-03-BC-0082 carrying CSD goods was coming from Jorhat proceeding towards Tuensang via Mokokchung, and met with an accident at New Medial Colony about 1 km away from Changtongya police station at 7:30 pm Saturday.
The police source informed that two of the occupants in the vehicle – the driver identified as Sandeep and a naik subedar, identified as Braham Seelan – were severely injured in the incident and shifted to Community Health Centre, Changtongya for first aid treatment.
Braham Seelan, however, succumbed to injuries at around 8:30 pm that same evening. The driver has been shifted to Imkongliba Memorial Hospital for further treatment, the police source said.
The cause of the incident could not be ascertained yet but police said that it was raining heavily when the military convoy was proceeding towards Mokokchung.
Police informed that the vehicle belonged to the 7th Sector of 8 Assam Rifles stationed at Tuensang. One AK-47 and an INSAS rifle were recovered by the police from the location. A case has been registered in this connection and further investigation is on, according to police.
