Dimapur, May 2 (EMN): The Assam Rifles Karate team emerged as the overall champions of the 14th Kotaka’s Cup which was conducted at the Tal Katora Stadium in New Delhi on April 28 and the 29th.
The championship was organised by the International Karate Federation of India Kotaka-ha-shito Ryu Karate-do under the aegis of All India Karate federation New Delhi. 22 teams including three security forces namely the Assam Rifles, the Delhi Police, and the Punjab Police participated in the event, an update from the Assam Rifles informed on Tuesday.
The Assam Rifles also won the championship the previous year. The team bagged eight gold, six silver, and three bronze medals at this championship.
The gold medals were won by Geet Chandra (below 55 kg), Sonu (below 60 kg), Sagar (below 65 kg), Mohan (below 84 kg), Lalrin Sanga (Ind. Kata), Junmoni (below 48 kg), Arpana (below 53 kg) and Vanshika (Ind. Kata). The silver medals were won by Vicky Shejul (below 50 kg), Sagar (below 75 kg), Suresh (below 80 kg), Mainu (below 45 kg), Beauty (below 53 kg), and Irene (below 63 kg). The bronze medals were won by Kiran (below 70 kg), Ankita (below 53 kg), and Zonmowii (below 63 kg).
