Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles organised a wreath laying ceremony and paid homage to Late Naik Tek Bahadur Thapa, KC (P) in Kohima on February 25.
A defence release stated that Late Naik Tek Bahadur made the supreme sacrifice by laying down his life in the line of duty in Mizoram on February 25, 1983. It stated that his wife Narayani Devi, who is currently in Nepal, was also felicitated by the battalion.
It informed that she then travelled 15 km on foot at the age of 74 years to be in good mobile network location and virtually witnessed the wreath laying ceremony in honour of her late husband.
In another programme, the same battalion reached out to Kohima Science College in Jotsoma on February 22 in a run up to the upcoming National Science Day.
It stated that an officer from Kohima battalion interacted with the students and faculty of Kohima Science College and felicitated them for their contribution to the society.
It mentioned that National Science Day is an annual event adopted by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), government of India, since 1986 to commemorate the great inventions and discoveries in the field of Science by the great Indian scientists and also to provide an opportunity to scientific-minded students and professionals to excel in the field of Science.
Though the day falls on February 28, the event was celebrated on February 22 in view of the college being closed on that day. It stated that the thoughtful gesture by the Kohima battalion of the Assam Rifles was highly appreciated by the faculty and students of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma. They have expressed desire for more interactive sessions even in future.
