DIMAPUR — Assam Rifles organised a series of community welfare initiatives and events across multiple locations in Nagaland.
Avakhung: World Bee Day was observed in the border village of Avakhung in Phek to raise awareness about the role of bees in sustaining biodiversity and enhancing rural livelihoods.
According to a press release, the event brought together villagers, youth, and community leaders to highlight the importance of beekeeping as a sustainable, income-generating activity.
Assam Rifles personnel highlighted the benefits of organic honey production and encouraged villagers to adopt eco-friendly beekeeping practices.
Demonstrations on modern apiculture techniques, hive management, and honey processing were conducted to equip participants with practical knowledge.
The initiative also focused on the potential of organic honey as a high-value product to boost local income and support economic self-reliance.
Tening: In Peren district, Assam Rifles organised a cleanliness drive at Tening on May 22 as part of its commitment towards environmental protection and community welfare.
The initiative witnessed participation from Baptist High School Tening, with 40 students and five teachers actively taking part in the campaign.
Participants joined hands with Assam Rifles personnel to clean public areas and spread awareness regarding hygiene, cleanliness, and environmental conservation to encourage civic responsibility among the youth.
Jalukie: An interactive and educational initiative titled "Day of learning by playing" was organised on May 22 for pre-primary students at Assam Rifles Public School in Jalukie, Peren district.
The event was designed to combine education with recreation, fostering early childhood cognitive development, teamwork, and foundational creativity. The Assam Rifles team curated age-appropriate educational games, puzzles, and interactive sports to promote holistic development and physical coordination.
Kohima: Assam Rifles conducted "A Day with Company Commander" at the Company Operating Base in Kohima on May 22 to strengthen civil-military relations and provide students with an insight into the functioning, discipline, and ethos of the security forces.
A total of 80 students and staff from Minister Hill Higher Secondary School, Kohima, participated in the programme. Various recreational and team-building activities, including volleyball, musical chairs, and tug of war, were conducted.
Also, a wreath-laying ceremony was conducted at the Unit War Memorial in Kohima on May 22 to honour the supreme sacrifice of Rifleman late T Gokil Singh, SM (P), who laid down his life while fighting insurgents near Nungba, Manipur, on May 22, 2014.
The ceremony was conducted with full military honours. Officers, JCOs, and troops gathered at the war memorial to pay homage. Wreaths were laid as a mark of respect, followed by a moment of silence. The unit also presented a memorial gift to the parents of late T Gokil Singh.
Dimapur: Sports items were distributed to the youth of Kuda village at the Kuda Futsal Arena as part of outreach and youth engagement initiatives.
Assam Rifles distributed various sports items, including footballs and volleyballs, to encourage participation in sports and promote physical fitness among the youth. The programme witnessed participation from students, parents, and community members.
Kiphire: The Kiphire Battalion of Assam Rifles organised a stationery distribution drive for the school children of Sanghkumti village in Kiphire district.
A total of 50 students, along with teachers and village elders, attended the event.
During the event, notebooks, pens, pencils, geometry boxes, and other learning materials were distributed to support education for children from economically underprivileged backgrounds.
Meluri: Assam Rifles personnel donated blood at the Community Health Centre in Meluri to support the treatment of a 28-year-old woman from Reguri village who was suffering from severe anaemia.
Following her admission, Assam Rifles provided the required blood without delay to assist the ongoing treatment, coordinating closely with the medical staff at the health centre.
