Fulfilling a long cherished dream, the Angami Sports Association (ASA) got its first ever office building, which was inaugurated today by Er. Kropol Vitsu, MLA, and dedicated by Rev. Pelhousehu Belho, pastor, Khedi Baptist Church.
The ASA office is housed at the ground floor of the Angami Public Organisation (APO) building, Kohima.
Addressing the gathering after formally inaugurating the office, Er Kropol, a former president of ASA and the present advisor, lauded the incumbent ASA officials for taking the initiative of the new office building.
ASA, being the apex sports body of the Angami community, the MLA urged the association officials to lead from the front with all sincerity and dedication, so as to encourage sportspersons to do better.
Kropol, who headed the ASA office for 10 years, while sharing his experiences, also suggested for defining and streamlining the ASA jurisdiction in the near future.“Sometime, it becomes wastage of time and expenditures when we don’t streamline our jurisdiction and our responsibilities. Let us be target oriented, in the attempt to build up sportspersons who can compete at the highest level,” he said adding that “Organising sports tournaments just for the sake of organizing will not bear us fruits in the long run.” He made a reference of Basketball and Volleyball where players with bigger physiques and structures get the advantage, contrary to the structures of Naga sportspersons.
The MLA also stressed on making sports a profession so that players earn their livelihood through it. To this, he underlined the need for ASA to guide players in choosing their disciplines.
“It’s very essential for a sportsperson to rightly choose his/her discipline. A wrong choice will upset the players when they reach higher level of competitions,” he said adding “It is ‘very’ important for a sportsperson to firstly understand his/her potentials, and then choose his discipline.”
Delivering the introductory speech, ASA president Er Neisievilie Lhousa thanked the Angami Public Organisation for providing a space to the ASA to build its office. “The ASA office will be utilized to encourage and motivate the youths and the upcoming generation to excel in sports,” he added. Mention be made that the Angami Sports Association was formed in 1967.
During the programme, a report on the office building was also presented by Athobu Meyase, convenor, Building Committee.
The programme was chaired by Visasielie Suohu, general secretary ASA, while the vote of thanks was tendered by Dr Rovi Zhünyü, vice president ASA.
The inauguration programme was also attended by MLA Dr. Neiphrezop Keditsu, former president of Chakhroma Sports Association.
