Imphal, Sep. 10 (EMN): The Loktak Battalion of Assam Rifles (AR), in a joint operation with Manipur Police, neutralised one self-styled Commander-in-Chief of the armed group Socialist Democratic Front of Kukiland (SDFK) and apprehended another cadre in Churachandpur on Friday.

PRO Headquarters Inspector General, Assam Rifles (South) said in an update that the AR troops along with Manipur Police launched a joint operation in the early hours of Friday based on specific intelligence.

‘During the cordon and search operation, an exchange of fire ensued between the security forces and two insurgents hiding in the area. In the fire fight one insurgent was neutralised and the other injured,’ said the press release.

The injured insurgent was apprehended and evacuated to Imphal for medical treatment, it added.

The deceased insurgent was identified as Letminthang Haokip alias Boithang, a self-styled Commander-in-Chief of SDFK, it said, adding that three pistols and 282 rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered from the area.
