Dimapur, April 11 (EMN): American tech giant Apple has started manufacturing its iPhone 13 smartphones in India.

The company already manufactures the iPhone 12, iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2020) devices in India and according to Apple, it has now started manufacturing the iPhone 13 in India at a Foxconn plant in the Tamil Nadu town of Sriperumbudur.

“We are excited to begin making iPhone 13 — with its beautiful design, advanced camera systems for stunning photos and videos, and the incredible performance of the A15 Bionic chip — right here in India for our local customers,” said Apple in a statement.

It may be mentioned that Apple had started trial production of the iPhone 13 in India back in December. The full-scale production of the iPhone 13 was scheduled to start in February 2022.

The decision to produce the iPhone 13 locally comes after Cupertino launched the device eight months ago. This is similar to when Apple started production of the iPhone 12 in India eight months after the device was launched.

Lately, Apple has been moving its iPhone production from China to other countries including India. Apple wants to cut down its reliance on China for its production processes and India, being the world’s second biggest smartphone market, seems to tick a lot of boxes for Apple.

The decision to make iPhone devices locally in India is a direct response to the Indian government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme and it will save Apple a lot of money in import duties.

The company has been doing well in the country in terms of sales. According to market analysts, Apple shipped 6 million iPhones last year making it one of the best fastest-growing smartphone brands in India.
