DIMAPUR — In a significant development, the Angami Public Organisation (APO) has termed the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) as “un-mandated’ and appealed to the state government to “restrain and refrain” the association’s members.

The apex Angami organisation, in a representation to the state chief secretary on Thursday, claimed the present NMA leaders were a “bunch of people who elected themselves” and no longer enjoyed the support and mandate of Naga women’s tribal bodies, “hence they are non-entity”.

Alleging that the NMA members lacked credibility, it said their presentation in any form should be declared “null and void”.

“The APO is deeply anguished and concerned to observe some Angami women (as NMA leaders) going around meeting different authorities and also organising various meetings and seminars thereby adopting resolutions pertaining to issues of common interests. However, the truth is that the NMA cease to exist long before and our Angami Women’s Organisation had dissociated with them and hence holds no accountability in any manner,” read the statement.

It went on to state that anything done with the request of these leaders was for their “sheer personal interest” and they no longer enjoyed the “blessing and support of the women of Nagaland state”.

“The situation at present is volatile and the battery is highly charged due to ruckus for ULB election. There are some who have the nature of flaring up the issues in the guise of working for public interest and social order etc. The present NMA leaders are one such,” it added.

APO further appealed to the state government and all concerned to be “aware and refrain” from the NMA members till further notice.
