Amur Falcon: Longleng cautions public

Dimapur, Nov. 4 (EMN): The district administration of Longleng has warned citizens against hunting or killing the migratory bird Amur Falcon. The migration of the small aerial predator is expected soon, updates stated.
The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) gave updates to the media on Monday informing about the notice from the administration.

The deputy commissioner of Longleng, M Shayung Phom issued a notification stating the caution, the IPR stated. The district authority has informed that the annual migration of the Amur Falcons to Nagaland is expected to start within few days and in large numbers in the district.

The official said that the Amur Falcon is protected by the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. Trapping, killing, or selling the Amur Falcon is a criminal offence punishable with three years rigorous imprisonment or with a fine of INR 25,000 or both under Section-51 of the Act, the updates stated.

Administrative officers, government departments in concern, village councils, ward presidents and nongovernmental organisations of Longleng are directed to give wide publicity to the public of their respective jurisdiction.

The public have been directed to strictly comply with the order. Appropriate action shall be initiated against offenders in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Act, the updates stated.
