Alfa Riders, HMC School lift junior Kabbadi Championship

Dimapur, March 13 (EMN): Alfa Riders (boys) and HMC School (girls) lifted the 3rd edition of junior (boys and girls) inter -district Kabaddi Championship held at Neingulie Memorial High School ground in Dimapur on March 13.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, MLA Kuzholuzo Neinu said that after a gap of nearly 70 years, ‘it (Kabaddi) has entered Nagaland and even though it is late it’s better late than never’.

 Neinu added that those boys and girls who got selected to represent Nagaland were the ‘luckiest’ as they would be participating in the All Indian Kabaddi Federation hosted by Telengana Kabaddi Association. He advised the gathering to be dedicated and committed in the spors in order to bring laurels to the state.

“Nagaland falls short when it comes to professionalism and champions,” he said and added that Naga people were ‘more like jack of all trades but master of none’ and to be recognised they should be master of something at least.

Speaking on the occasion as guest of honour, principal of St. Mary’s Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur,  Neena Dutta said that games like kabaddi and Kho Kho should be played more along with the popular games in the state like cricket, football, and basketball. She encouraged the players to understand that sports is also important along with studies.

In the welcome address, president of Nagaland Kabaddi Association Dr. S Amos Longkumer informed that a total of 16 players each from both the categories (boys and girls) will be selected to represent Nagaland in the upcoming national tournament in Telangana.

In the 3rd edition of junior (Boys and girls) inter-district Kabaddi Championship organised by Nagaland Kabaddi Association, a total of nine teams participated from different schools in the state.

The first and second runners-up in the third edition were AG Hr. Sec. School (boys), SD Jain Hr. Sec. School (girls) and ITT Club (boys), Neingulie Memorial High School Dimapur (girls) respectively. The winners and runners-up were awarded certificate and trophies.
