Mokokchung, Nov. 29 (EMN): Asserting that people of Nagaland desperately need clean election, the Director of Community Educational Centre Society (CECS), Subonenba Longkumer on November 29 opined that people need to choose ethical and capable leaders who do not squander the resources or fight among themselves for the leadership but brings development to build the Naga society and its future generation.

He was speaking as the resource person during the launching programme of Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) clean election campaign at Town Hall, Mokokchung. The resource person asserted that people have destroyed election system by means of interfering into the community through muscle and money power thus destroying the peaceful co-existence in the constituency. He stated that people these days look on elections as a season for earning wealth and favours in return.

Longkumer further asserted that corrupt election promotes wrongdoer, crooks and corrupted leaders who snatch away the public money meant for public welfare and developmental activities.

In this connection, the CECS Director said people need a clean election to elect God-fearing and faithful leaders who are completely dedicated towards the need of the people; who apply their best wisdom and knowledge to pursue development and good governance and creates opportunities for the youth.

Longkumer further added that it is high time for the people to raise their voice to change the world by knowing where they are, who they are and their responsibility to elect leaders who are cultured in character and being able to voice the need of the people in parliament and other meetings.

Another resource person and Additional Chief Electoral Office, Moa Aier, lamented that Mokokchung being the pioneer of Christianity and education in the state has become the pioneer for using money and muscle power for elections malpractices. He revealed that the highest deletion of bogus voters from electoral rolls in 2011 stands out to be Mokokchung.

The official also informed that the chief secretary had issued an order in June this year that any village council declaring a particular candidate to be the sole candidature for a village would be termed as illegal.

Meanwhile, Aier has appreciated the NBCC clean election campaign for its commendable work.

The launching programme was attended by representatives from Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang, MTLT, students from FAC, JMC, Peoples’ College, Mokokchung College of Teacher Education and DIET. Short speeches were also tendered by Deputy Commissioner of Mokochung Sachin Jaiswal, Ao Senden vice president Chubawati, Watsu Mungdang Senior Executive and former president I Limala Ozukum while the welcome address was pronounced by AKM President Imkongwati Longkumer.
