Dimapur, July 22 (EMN): Embarking on a mission to provide information and knowledge for farmers in order to enhance production in agriculture, the department of Agriculture released a guidebook titled ‘Crop calendar Nagaland.’ The book was released by the state minister of Agriculture and Cooperation, G Kaito Aye on July 20.

According to an update from the Agriculture department, the book was a first of its kind published covering all the districts of Nagaland.

Speaking at the programme, Kaito acknowledged the department for their tireless efforts in publishing the crop calendar. He expressed hope that the booklet would inspire the farming community to undertake their activities to a larger extent.

Stating that Agri and Allied departments play an important role in agriculture activities, he urged upon the officers and staff to continue giving their best efforts for the improvement of the economy in the state. He also encouraged the officials to improvise and provide information to enhance productivity.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC), Y Kikheto Sema, has urged the creation of more water bodies in order to tide over drought-like situations in the state.

To reach out to all the farmers, he encouraged them to publish the booklet in local languages for the benefit of the farmers.

Director of Agriculture, Ben Yanthan, in his introductory remarks, stated that the department has set goals for food security by 2025 by empowering and improving the living standards of the farming community. He informed that around 2,50,360 farming households across the state would produce food for their own sustenance. To achieve the vision, he stated that the department is focusing on various strategies under the CSS programme.

The director stated that 500 copies have been printed for distribution. He added that an additional 1500 copies would be printed for distribution in all the districts.
