Advisor Mhathung advises students to venture into agri-entrepreneurship
KOHIMA — Advisor for Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, said on Wednesday that people in Nagaland are still satisfied with conventional farming methods, though the world has progressed in artificial intelligence and modern technologies.
He stated this while addressing the inaugural programme of the 19th Agricultural Students’ Association of Nagaland (ASAN) conference held at the multipurpose hall, School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema, according to an update.
Yanthan, a former agriculture student, noted that Nagaland is seeing an increase in the number of agro-horticulture entrepreneurs, despite the fact that the majority of them do not have an agricultural background, and encouraged students to consider turning agriculture into a business and pursuing entrepreneurship in this field.
He bemoaned the fact that, despite the large number of graduates from agricultural institutes, many pursue only government jobs and urged people to venture out and look beyond government jobs.
Earlier, in her speech, Dr. Akali Sema, pro-vice chancellor of Nagaland University, SAS, exhorted agricultural students to think outside the box in the face of rapidly evolving technology and challenges.
Yanthan also released the 19th ASAN general conference memento to commemorate the occasion.
