Advisor encourages oil palm cultivation to boost economy
Dimapur, April 29 (EMN): Elaborating on the suitable climatic condition of Nagaland for cultivation of oil palm, the advisor of Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, called upon the farmers to work hard and give their best efforts to boost the state economy.
Speaking at the state-level workshop-cum-awareness programme on oil palm cultivation, organised by the department of Agriculture at Agri-Expo site, Chümoukedima, on April 28, Yanthan highlighted the potential of oil palm market in the country as more than 50% of oil palm is imported from different countries.
He also mentioned that the state government has earmarked 15000 hectares for oil palm cultivation and around 1000 hectares is currently being utilized, a DIPR report stated.
The advisor also reminded that the government of Nagaland has signed an MoU with two private companies namely Godrej Agrovet limited and Patanjali Foods limited to develop trust and confidence for a successful venture.
The director of Agriculture, M Ben Yanthan, delivered the keynote address, while the deputy director, Dr. Beremjungla, delivered the vote of thanks.
Report stated that official from the two private companies also held technical session with oil palm farmers from Peren, Chümoukidima, Niuland, Dimapur Mokokchung, Longleng and Mon districts.
