JAKHAMA, NOVEMBER 5

Naga National Council (NNC) president Adinno said today that the desire of the people is peace with honour and advised the people to choose the right path so that “we are subdued”.
She was addressing a meeting of the Angami Regional Council of the NNC at the Jakhama ground today.
Emphasising that the most important agenda of the Nagas is to ensure the survival of “our race”, Adinno Phizo called upon the Nagas to progress and exist as a distinct people in this fast-changing world.
Gen.(Retd) Viyalie Metha, Kedahge, FGN and other noted Naga leaders also addressed the gathering.
Earlier in the day, Adinno Phizo paid homage to one of the forgotten pioneers of the Naga freedom movement, late Visar Viswentso Angami, the third president of the NNC, at his grave at Jakhama village, which is currently in the process of being converted into a monument in memory of the late freedom fighter.
After laying a floral wreath, Adinno Phizo, accompanied by her colleagues, paid a visit to the home of the sole surviving nephew of Visar, Kevilezho Viswentso, where she had interactions with leaders and elders from the village. During the interactions, the villagers reminded Adinno about the contributions of late Visar in the Naga freedom struggle and how his name has become almost forgotten.
Visar Viswentso Angami had served as the NNC president just before the legendary A. Z Phizo, father of Adinno.
Meanwhile, works are underway by the Jakhama Village Council to convert the non-descript and decrepit grave of the late freedom fighter into a monument where a huge monolith will replace the existing headstone.
