Dimapur, July 7 (EMN):The Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) has on Friday filed an FIR at West Police Station Dimapur, against the Block Development Officer and its office at Chumukedima for deducting funds from the MGNREGA scheme meant for Chumukedima village.
The FIR by Tia Longchar and Hukiye Yepthomi on behalf of ACAUT was filed based on a statement by the Chumukedima Area GBs’ Association that came out in some local newspapers on July 4.
The CAGBA had alleged that 80% of the MGNREGA funds were deducted as Convergence Fund by the Rural Development Department officials of Chumukedima Block.The ACAUT in the FIR has also alleged that the modus operandi of the department was to, “First put the funds meant for works programme under MNREGA schemes into the account of each VDB, then the VDB secretaries were made to withdraw the money and hand over 80% of the total amount as convergence fund to the BDO’s Office, Chumu, after signing the receipt of the money meant for MNREGA programmes”.
It further claimed that the VDB secretaries were made to sign under receipt of money for MNREGA works and programmes, is prima facie extortion from helpless villagers and village council.
