ACTION Committee Against Unabated Taxation Nagaland (ACAUT) has expressed solidarity and support to the Nagaland Timber Traders Union (NTTU), while stating that the facts given by NTTU on local dailies corroborated to the reports of the fact finding committee of ACAUT.A press statement issued by ACAUT Media Cell said the allegations of the NTTU could not be further from the truth but affirmed as truth and real as felt by concerned public.
ACAUT has applauded the courage of the NTTU in bringing out the report. It claimed that corruption and unabated taxation have gone beyond point of toleration adding time has come to root out these evil practices.
Further, ACAUT has outrightly condemned the blatant corruption on the part of the State government and the Forest Department. It accused that the State government rather than safeguarding the rights of the people is all out looting the people shamelessly. ACAUT has demanded the State government to immediately halt any kind’s illegal collections/ fees in the guise of departmental fees and commission and set up the High Powered Commission as per the October 31st resolution so to initiate an independent and unbiased inquiry into these allegations.
ACAUT has, meanwhile, expressed dismay over the callous attitude of the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) despite public outcry and fervent plea on taxation. ACAUT has questioned NPGs if they are really for the people while adding that if they are for the people, they should abide by the October 31 resolution and heed to the cries of people.
