Abu Metha leads Indian contingent at World U20 Athletics Championships
Dimapur, Aug. 18 (EMN): The Indian contingent for the World U20 Athletics Championships at Nairobi in Kenya was led by team leader and Associate Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) Abu Metha. An update stated that the opening ceremony was held late on August 17 at the world famous Karanani Stadium, popularly known as the Home of Heroes.
It said that only five persons were allowed to represent the country at the grand opening due to Covid restrictions. India’s flag bearer was Kunwer Ajai Singh Rana who is competing in the men’s Javelin.
It said that India has a 38-member team comprising coaching staff and team officials.
It may be mentioned that this is the first time that an Indian Athletics team to the World Championships is being led by a person from the northeast. The ceremony was also attended by AFI President, Adille Sumariwala, it added.
