Dimapur, April 12 (EMN):
The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) recently rescued an infant, who was abandoned at a hospital in Dimapur.

Arenla C Phom, Protection Officer, (NIC) District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Nagaland, informed Eastern Mirror that a newborn baby was abandoned by his parents on March 12, 2022. It came to light after the concerned hospital authorities informed CWC about the incident, following which the child was rescued after investigating the case.

The baby, who is a month old now, is currently staying at a children’s home in Dimapur, she informed, adding that the abandoned boy has a cleft lip.

Phom further said that the parents left the baby ‘without anyone noticing’ after the mother gave birth in the hospital and no case has been filed in the police station.

She shared that the child is healthy and doing fine at the childcare institute. “If no one comes forward and claim the child, then we can send the child for adoption but before going through that process, we wanted to give time for parents or relatives to come forward,” she added.

The names of the child’s parents, as provided by them to the hospital, are Tasamai (father) and Tormai (mother), it was informed.

In a separate case, Phom informed that a four-year-old boy named Madan was found loitering around at Pantaloons shopping mall in Tajen Ao road, Dimapur by a passerby before being rescued by Childline Dimapur. The incident happened on March 20, 2022.

She said that they had circulated the photos and name of the child to reunite with his family but till date, the parents or relatives have not contacted them or come forward to take him.

She added that the lost child could not provide much information except his name and age.

Parents, blood relatives or guardians of both the children have been requested to contact DCPU, Dimapur or call 7005156893 and 8119036716.
