Teachers need to be innovative, disciplined — Prof. Thong

DIMAPUR — Pro-Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Prof. Glenn T Thong, on Friday said that trained graduate teachers (TGT) need to be innovative, hardworking, disciplined and willing to take risk in order to achieve success in life.

Addressing the first graduation day ceremony of the State College of Teacher Education (SCTE), Kohima, the Pro-VC said that a new chapter has begun for the graduated teachers and asked them whether they are going to be just another teacher or a teacher who can usher change that the society needs desperately.

He said many people have succeeded challenges in life today because there were teachers, who have guided and shape them, a DIPR report stated.

“Besides your training, you have huge responsibilities to play in shaping the young students for our future generation. Teachers should educate their students on issues like environmental awareness, community participations, biodiversity protection for ecological balance management to save our planet earth from further destruction,” Thong said.

He also called upon the trained graduates to teach the students how to reduce wants and consumption and cited an example saying, “Why should I have ten cars in my compound when two cars can attend to my needs.”                                                 

He further said that the TGT are the right persons to create awareness on issue which need urgent intervention.

The Pro-VC conferred degrees to 46 graduates of 2024 batch.

Presentation of special award was done by NU head of Teacher Education department, Prof. Gyanendra Nath Tiwari, while the principal of SCTE-K, Dr. Elizabeth Walling, delivered the congratulatory note.

Welcome address was delivered by vice principal of SCTE-K, Dr. Runi Nakro, and words of gratitude by Dr. Neizekhonuo Liesietsu.

Earlier, director of SCERT, Keviraleu Kerhuo released the college magazine.
