24th edition of NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy from September 7
KOHIMA — The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) on Thursday announced that the 24th edition of the NSF Martyrs’ Memorial Trophy will be held at IG Stadium, Kohima, from September 7 to the 28th.
In an update, the ASU recalled that the month-long football tournament is held in honour of two students, late Kekuojalie Sachü of Kohima village and late Vikhozo Yhoshü of Kigwema village, who were victims of the Nagaland Armed Police’s “indiscriminate firing” on March 20, 1986.
The tragic incident occurred during a peaceful rally organised by the Naga Students’ Federation, protesting the state government’s decision to extend the Disturbed Area Belt along the Indo-Myanmar border and the induction of Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre into Nagaland.
The organising committee informed that the tournament will feature various individual prizes, along with attractive cash prizes, trophies, and citations for the champions, runners-up, losing semi-finalists and quarter-finalists.
The organising committee informed interested teams, clubs and players from within and outside the state, to begin their preparations for the prestigious event.
Meanwhile, the organising committee announced an open invitation for ground management. Interested parties are to contact the organisers by August 4.
The organisers further informed that entry forms will be made available soon.
