DIMAPUR — One more personnel of the 10th Nagaland Armed Police (IR) on election duty in Bihar died due to heatstroke on Saturday morning around 5.30 am, taking the death toll of IR personnel posted in Bihar to three.

The deceased jawan identified as Wetelhou Chakhesang is said have joined the police force in 2002 and believed to be in his late 40s.

According to an official source, Wetelhou was on polling duty on Friday when he collapsed due to heatstroke was rushed to a hospital. It was reported that the collapse caused internal bleeding and brain damage. He was admitted in the ICU but unfortunately passed away on Saturday morning.

His mortal remains are likely to be brought to Nagaland in an ambulance by road, the source said.

The source updated that many of the jawans who were admitted yesterday have been discharged after first aid treatment and presently only six are admitted in hospitals. But they are reported to be out of danger.

As a precautionary measure, the IR personnel have been advised to drink lots of water and electrolytes. Also, the battalion has taken steps to send back those jawans who are unwell back home at the earliest.

The 10 NAP (IR) personnel, presently on election duty in Bihar, are likely to return to Nagaland on June 3, if the poll process goes smoothly.

Meanwhile, the source also disclosed that the ambulance carrying the remains of Nikiye Tsuipu enroute to Nagaland had moved out from Bihar on Saturday morning around 2.15 am.

It may be mentioned that on May 26, a 10 NAP (IR) jawan named Akangluba Ao died of heatstroke while on polling duty in Bihar. Again, on May 31, Nikiye Tsuipu from the same battalion also succumbed to heatstroke.
