SAMETI Medziphema conducts STRY on packaging of fruits, vegetables
DIMAPUR — State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) Medziphema, organised a six-day Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) programme on ‘Value addition and packaging of fruits and vegetables – Phase II’, from March 18 to the 23rd at SAMETI complex.
The skill training was held in association with the National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad, an update stated.
During the inaugural programme, deputy project director of SAMETI and STRY nodal officer, Tiajungla Longchar gave an overview of the STRY programme and welcomed the participants.
Director SAMETI and principal of IETC, Medziphema, Dr. Watimongla Jamir, in her keynote address, urged the participants to do away with dependency mentality and try to learn new skills so as to become financially independent.
She said that one can become empowered only when the skills imparted are translated into income generating activities.
Hands-on practical sessions on preparation of ginger candy, chilli pickle in oil, carambola (star fruit) RTS, papaya tutti frutti, tree bean (Yongchak) pickle, vegetable pickle, packaging, labelling and storage of processed products and FSSAI certification, were demonstrated.
The resource persons for the training programme were Dr. Moasosang Longkumer, assistant horticulture specialist and post harvest technology in-charge, Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema, and Sourabh Trivedi, director of marketing, North East Foods India (Produce of Naga Hills).
Training certificates, manuals and prepared products were distributed to the participants during the valedictory programme. A total of 15 participants were trained, the update stated.
