DIMAPUR — Following a meeting on February 2 convened by one tribe “without prior consultation” with the two apex bodies—Central Nagaland Tribal Council (CNTC) and Tenyimi Union Nagaland (TUN), the apex bodies have appealed that no such step be taken without consultation in the future to avoid confusion.
According to an update, neither organisation was invited to participate in the gathering and maintained that “this unilateral decision is perceived as a departure from the collaborative spirit that has been the hallmark of previous discussions”.
It reminded that on November 21, 2023, representatives from eight Naga tribes, in conjunction with the CNTC and TUN, convened a meeting. The gathering included Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, Minister G Kaito Aye, Minister KG Kenye, advisor Imkong L Imchen, and advisor to the chief minister, Dr. Chumben Murry. The outcome was a unanimous resolution to forge a common platform.
“The eight tribal entities, under the collaborative banner of CNTC and TUN, resolved to take progressive steps towards the establishment of an apex body,” it said, adding that the move is seen as a crucial stride towards fostering unity and collective representation for the Naga community in Nagaland.
