Massive fire breaks out at shopping complex in Mokokchung; properties worth crores of rupees damaged
DIMAPUR — A massive fire broke out at the Mokokchung Municipal Council Shopping Complex around 9:15 pm on Saturday, causing damage to property worth crores of rupees.
Panic ensued as shoppers rushed to save their goods from the raging inferno that engulfed the garment shop segment of the complex on the first floor.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
It took more than two hours of collaborative efforts to bring the fire under control as firefighters battled the blaze, with additional support from the Assam Rifles and District Executive Force (DEF) Mokokchung.
Volunteers and police personnel also assisted the firefighters and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in dousing the fire and the rescue efforts.
The deputy commissioner of Mokokchung and District Disaster Management Authority officials also visited the site to take stock of the situation.
