Youth advised to develop skills to overcome challenges

DIMAPUR — Describing youth life as vigorous, energetic and filled with spirit, the medical officer in-charge of Kiusam Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Kiphire district, Dr. Emmanuel Patton, urged the youth to develop skills, overcome challenges, make mistakes and learn from them.

Speaking at the 36th general conference of Lotha Catholic Youth Association (LCYA) on Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lakhuti village in Wokha district as the guest speaker on the theme “Reunion with Christ,” Dr. Patton emphasised the importance of truly listening and following knowledge. He also encouraged the youth to set goals, embrace social responsibility and be exemplary figures for others, stated an update from LCYA media cell.

Expressing concern about substance abuse, particularly alcohol, he urged the youth to overcome negative influences and be pillars for tomorrow. While emphasising the value of money, he advised them against becoming slaves to it and also stressed on the importance of time.

Dr. Patton further urged the youth to prioritise God in everything and emphasised the need to create opportunities rather than waiting for them. Besides, he addressed the misuse of social media and urged them to use the facility responsibly.

The event began with an invocation prayer said by N Peter Yanthan, catechist of Sacred Heart Church, Baghty, and followed with flag hoisting by the guest speaker. The LCYA anthem was sung led by Lakhuti CYA.

The inaugural programme was followed with a Holy Mass celebration led by Rev. Fr. Renao Shitio.

In his homily, Fr. Renao emphasised God’s love for humanity and highlighted the redemption through Jesus. Stressing on the completeness of youth life, he called for a holistic approach—spiritual, mental, and physical.

He further urged the gathering to profess God by expressing gratitude in all aspects of life.

The event was led by John Nrithung, president of CYA Akuk, and concluded with a benediction said by Areni J Yanthan, women leader of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lakhuti.
