Khouchiezhie local ground bustling with activity as Winter Bazaar underway

KOHIMA — The Khouchiezhie local ground has turned into a market space with dozens of traders, mostly dealing with thrift clothes joining the annual Winter Bazaar organized by the Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO).

The fair, which began earlier this month, has attracted a good crowd as people are thronging to do their shopping before the festivities begin, and the local ground is expected to bustle with activity till the carnival closes on December 20.

Asune, a thrift stall owner, told this newspaper that sales are better this year compared to last year, while expressing hope that the remaining days attract more customers.

Vede, a college student, said that he was helping his aunt sell thrift clothes and earn pocket money. He added shared that the sales have been good so far.

Meanwhile, a family residing in Kohima shared their excitement, saying that they had been waiting for their children’s winter break so that they could begin shopping for themselves as well as for the less privileged before heading to their native village for Christmas celebration.

Pusile said that the Winter Bazaar has been a shopping hub for her family for many years, offering an abundance of choices at reasonable price.

As people from nearby areas come to capital city for shopping ahead of the festive season, traffic jam has become a norm.
