13th All India Railway Archery Championship underway
Archers competing during the ongoing 13thAll India Railway (Men and Women) Archery Championship 2023, at NFR Sports Association football stadium, Guwahati.

DIMAPUR — The 13th All India Railway (Men and Women) Archery Championship 2023, organised by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), got underway on October 8 at NFR Sports Association football stadium, Pandu, Guwahati.

The sporting event was inaugurated by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway, on Monday in presence of other Railway officials. The championship will continue till October 10, stated an update from NFR.

A total of 11 teams from various zones; production units of Indian Railways are taking part in the championship. Participators include NFR (Northeast Frontier Railway, Maligaon), ER (Eastern Railway, Kolkata), SECR (South East Central Railway, Bilaspur), SER (South Eastern Railway, Kolkata), SCR (South Central Railway, Secunderabad), SR (Southern Railway, Chennai), ECR (East Central Railway, Hajipur), ECoR (East Coast Railway, Bhubaneswar), NER (North Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur), CLW (Chittaranjan Locomotive Works) and RPF (Railway Protection Force).

A total number of 50 players, including eight top ranking players of Indian Railways and five players of International repute are taking part in this championship.

Olympian, Arjuna awardee and Padmashree awardee L Bombayla Devi from Eastern Railway, Olympian and Arjuna awardee Mangal Singh Champia from Eastern Railway, Olympian and Arjuna awardee Rahul Banerjee from Eastern Railway, Olympian Laxmi Rani Majhi from Chittaranjan Locomotive Works and Asian Games bronze Medallist Trisha Deb from Eastern Railway are among the participating players.

“Sports are an integral part for one’s life to keep mind and body healthy. NFRSA (Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Association) is working with the objective to create and develop new talent in the field of sports by taking various steps which will in turn brings glory to Indian Railways and the country in international events,” the update stated.
