Zetta Farms to invest in agri and allied sector
DIMAPUR — Zetta Farms, a Gurgaon-based company, announced that it would invest in agri and allied sector in Nagaland. The investment would be made in collaboration with Toka Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd.
This was announced by the CEO of Zetta Farms, Rituraj Sharma, during a press conference held at H Apartment in Purana Bazaar, Dimapur, on Thursday. According to Sharma, Zetta Farms is a company dedicated to revitalising the entire agricultural ecosystem with the goal of ensuring food security and sustainability. He disclosed that Zetta Farms is currently operating on approximately 10,000 acres of land across 14 states in India and extended support to around 1,200 farming families to date.
Sharma mentioned that the objective of Zetta Farms was to create a multiple-crop structure wherein all the farmers would be aggregated to enable them to get multiple secure incomes.
Zetta Farms has been involved in promoting more than 70 crops including leguminous crops, aromatic plants, medicinal herbs, cereal and grain as well as on variety of fruits, vegetables and select cash crops. Sharma informed that Nagaland has an advantage due to its favourable weather conditions and topographical location to grow all types of crops.
He informed that Zetta Farms has launched Zetta Rozgaar Yojna, a programme that extends employment opportunities by offering one job for every two acres of cultivated land with pension, insurance coverage and child education benefits for all farm labourers engaged in the initiative.
Sharma shared that a mere 600 hectares out of the total 65,000 hectares of agricultural land are currently under utilisation. He added that the untapped 10,000 hectares of available land in Nagaland has the capacity to generate revenue of over INR 1000 crore in the next two decades.
He mentioned that Wokha, Dimapur and Mokokchung districts have huge potential in rubber production. However, with no regular market to sell the products, he added that the company would come up with a project for the creation of a rubber factory, where farmers would be trained to increase productivity.
Meanwhile, the managing director of Toka MPCS Ltd., K Kathi Chishi, mentioned that the farmers must also understand the viability of the rubber economy. He added that a 10-hectare area of rubber plantation is economically viable.
