Nagaland Health minister convenes emergency meeting over rising dengue cases; situation under control in Mon

DIMAPUR — Minister for Health and Family Welfare P Paiwang Konyak convened an emergency meeting with district administrations of Dimapur, Chümoukedima, medical officials, doctors from private hospitals and other line departments to take stock of the rising dengue cases in the districts.

A ‘Dengue Response Team’ was constituted to mitigate the spread of the vector-borne disease, with Paiwang as the Chairman and CMO Dimapur as member secretary, while other members include commissioner and secretary, and principal director of Health department; DCs; CP; MS; DMC administrator; and members of Nagaland Private doctors’ Association.

The team will hold meetings from time to time till the dengue situation is contained, according to an update from DPRO Dimapur.

For patients requiring admission and treatment for dengue, the CISHR and District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) has agreed to keep 140 beds and 40 beds respectively. The house also decided to activate the Chümoukedima Police Hospital by Thursday.

While directing immediate activation of the District Task Force, Paiwang assured to look into manpower requirement. He said DHD, which has one blood segregation machine, while get another one in a few days, while CISHR and District Hospital Kohima also have one each.

He appealed to the citizens of the state, especially from Dimapur to avoid travelling to other places till the dengue situation normalises.

After being briefed on the flood situation at Dimapur by the DC and Administrator of DMC, the minister advised to formulate immediate action plan. He also suggested appraising the government about the issue of encroachment hampering drainage systems through a report.

To get the latest updates on dengue cases across the state and Dimapur in particular, the house decided to activate a control room in the directorate of Health department, it was informed.

Going by the advice of doctors, the house decided to carry out massive awareness campaigns and cleanliness drives with active participation of the community through the initiative of the DCs and Health officials.

With regard to platelets, health experts informed that blood transfusion is not required even if platelet count of a young patient dips as low as 25000 if there is no bleeding and co morbidity.

Dengue update in Mon

Meanwhile, the Health minister said he’s in constant touch with the MS and CMO of District Hospital Mon and that the situation in the district is under control.

An update from DPRO Dimapur said that DC Mon and MS of District Hospital Mon have thanked Paiwang for taking keen interest in improving the health care delivery system at the health facility and personally visiting the hospital to take stock of the situation.

The Hospital Management Committee also lauded the Health minister for deploying four more medical officers, 10 nurses and five lab technicians to the district hospital, and donating a new complete blood count (CBC) machine which will be installed soon after completion of medical formalities.
