Gujarat cops arrest 3 persons involved in assaulting Naga men

KOHIMA — Gujarat police have arrested three persons in connection with the attack on two men from Nagaland earlier this month in Chanakyapuri area of Ahmedabad, for selling non-vegetarian and northeastern food.

A source from Naga Students’ Union Gujarat (NSUG) informed Eastern Mirror on Saturday that the three accused persons were apprehended by personnel of Sola High Court Police Station, Ahmedabad.

A team led by Senior Inspector of the police station, JB Agrawat, is said to be carrying out further investigation of the case.

It is said that the arrested persons have been booked under sections 323, 324, 294(B) and 114 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as under section 135 (1) of the Gujarat Police Act.

The NSUG lauded the Gujarat police for its prompt action and nabbing some of those involved in the incident.

The two victims, who underwent treatment at a hospital in Ahmedabad for injuries, including on the head that required stitches, are said to be “fine” now with no serious medical issues.

The Times of India reported on Wednesday that about 10 men had attacked the two Naga lads for selling northeastern food at an eatery called ‘One Stop Northeast’ in Chanakyapuri on June 4, following which an FIR was filed with the Sola police against the unknown men.
