Colleges bid farewell to outgoing students

Dimapur, May 12 (EMN): Various colleges across Nagaland organised farewell programme for the outgoing students in their respective college. Speakers of the various events have expressed the hardship faced by the students owing to COVID-19 pandemic. The speakers have commended the students for their resilience and hard work and overcoming the pandemic.

Modern College: Modern College in Piphema organised a parting social for the class of 2020-23 on May 12.

An update from the college stated that its principal, Dr. Vitsou Yano, exhorted the outgoing students with the message to always maintain positive outlook at life and look at things differently.

It added that both the staff and students took active part in the programme.

FAC:  Fazl Ali College in Mokokchung bade farewell to the class of 2023 during a programme held on May 10 at the college auditorium on the theme ‘Novum Horizontem’ (New Horizon).

The farewell programme witnessed speeches and performances both from the senior and the junior students, while speech on behalf of the students’ union was delivered by its general secretary, Tushikaba, and speech on behalf of the lecturers was delivered by head of Economics department, Dr. Imcharenla.

Dr. Imcharenla commended the graduating class on reaching an important life milestone and reminded the difficulties encountered and overcome during the COVID-19 pandemic. She recalled the times when they had committed to their studies and remained focused on academic pursuits and demonstrated resilience and hard work, which was a testimony on the power of perseverance.

She encouraged the students to be equipped with the skills and knowledge to excel in their chosen fields as they enter into a new horizon. She also encouraged them to become responsible citizen and strive to make positive difference in the lives of those around them.

A special prayer was also held for the outgoing students by Rev. Lima Lemdur, pastor of Union Church, FAC. 

YMC: Yemhi Memorial College Students’ Council (YMCSU) also organised a farewell programme for the outgoing students of 2020 batch on May 9.

Speaking on behalf of faculty, Temsunaro Imchen, head of Economics department, encouraged the students to have a purpose in life to have a successful future and stressed on the need to be less dependent on social media but spend more time on doing productive works.

She called upon the students to believe in the power of prayer and to lean on God.

The college’s principal, Dr. Kaba Daniel, spoke on how the outgoing batch faced hardships due to the pandemic but were able to endure and overcame many obstacles during online classes. He further wished them success for their future.

C-Edge College: C-Edge College held its 9th commencement day on May 11 at the GK auditorium with Dr. Akum Longchari, publisher of The Morung Express, as speaker.

On the occasion, the champion star attendance award was conferred to Sentibenla of BA VI semester, while EU student of the year and the Spear prize was conferred to Vesulu Puro of BA VI semester and the EVS topper was awarded to Wepre Marhu and Vesulu Puro of BA VI semester.

In his commencement speech, Dr. Longchari mentioned about the tragic incident and situation in Manipur and reminded that violence is not just brutal, systematic, numbing and blind but has the potent to impact the future. He stressed on how the crisis in Manipur must provoke us to a process of self-reflection, self-questioning, self-defining and self-transformation to enable an examined and purposeful life.

Dr. Longchari invited the graduating class of 2023 to ‘aspire living in radical hope’ by releasing the critical imagination and harnessing the matrix of human solidarity for the new to be born so that everyone can become fully human. He ended his speech by urging the Class of 2023 to boldly dream dreams and to aspire to be different and to make a difference.
