Healthcare workers in Wokha trained on HBYC

DIIMAPUR — Wokha division of the Health and Family Welfare department conducted a three-day district-level training on home-based care for young child (HBYC) in the conference hall of the chief medical officer’s (CMO) office, Wokha, from April 18 to the 20th.

An update from the CMO’s office stated that Dr. Thungchanpeni Patton, district programme officer (UIP/RCH), Wokha, explained the concept of HBYC during the inaugural session. Dr. Patton stated that the training was crucial for the healthcare workers in order to train the ASHA at block level and give them a proper hand holding.

The main objective of HBYC training was to assist the mother and child during the crucial 3 to 15 months, she added.

It stated that sessions on introduction and rationale of home-based care for young child programme, roles and responsibilities of ASHA in HBYC, planning for home visits, exclusive breastfeeding, complimentary feeding, iron folic acid supplementation, family planning, immunisation for children, growth monitoring, group discussions etc. were taken by resource persons namely Benjong, programme manager (child health); Chubala, state programme manager (community process); Sentila, consultant of urban primary health centre (UPHC) Mokokchung; and Chubakatila, GNM of UPHC Mokochung.

The trainees included district community mobiliser, community health officers and block ASHA coordinators from Wokha district.
