Kohima,:  The Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home (KODH) organised its 50th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday with Advisor to Nagaland Chief Minister and Chairman, Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Abu Metha as special guest.

KODH was established in 1973 and over the years, it has enrolled over 700 children. Many have graduated and are employed in various sectors, while many have excelled in various fields such as music and sports. Currently, it has 90 children studying in various schools.

Encouraging the children, Metha said they were no less than others, adding that many children of wealthy families or officers could not do well because they had not paid attention to their chosen fields.

He told the children that each one of them should dream big. Metha said this would be possible when they stay on course without distraction.

“You all have potential to become someone,” he said.

“You have to run an extra mile and be brave to face the world. It is all about hard work and staying focused in your fields. You should keep doing what you have been doing,” he said.

Paying his tribute to Zaputuo Angami, founder of KODH, he said one can imagine how difficult it would be when she was running the Home in those years.

Stating that she always had been an inspiration to him, Metha said she had sacrificed for the children in this Home. “At the moment, she must be looking at us celebrating this 50th Anniversary of the Home,” he said.

Amho and Zubenthung delivered speeches on behalf of the children in the Home.

The jubilee song and a tribute song were presented by children of the KODH. Special performances were also presented by the Sunshine Orchestra Nagaland Chapter and students of the Shalom Bible Seminary.

Earlier, Neibanuo, daughter of late Zaputuo Angami, gave a brief history of the KRDH.

Arhi Theünuo chaired the programme while Dr. Lhouvizotuo Belho delivered the vote of thanks.

Large number of well-wishers, government officials, members of various organisations and publics attended the anniversary celebration.
