BJP belittled Naga people’s aspiration, says Congress ahead of Nagaland Assembly election
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of belittling the aspiration of the Naga people and their demand for an early solution to the Naga political issue.
Addressing a press conference on Monday at Shunammite Inn, Dimapur, chairperson of Social Media and Digital Platforms, AICC, Supriya Shrinate, said that in the 2018 state assembly election, Naga people had given the BJP and its partners a chance because of their ‘election for solution’ promise.
However, nothing happened and they are once again seeking votes in the name of solution, added Shrinate, terming BJP’s electoral promises as “a colossal Jumla”.
She said the pitiable road condition in the state, particularly in eastern districts, bears testimony to the false claims of development. Pointing out the erratic power supply in the state, she sought to know the efforts made by the government to ensure a 24×7 power supply.
While claiming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to make false claims about Nal Se Jal in Parliament, she asked why he hasn’t fulfilled his bogus promises and deprived Nagaland state of water supply.
Shrinate also said that the eastern region of the state has been languishing in terms of basic amenities and development due to continuous betrayal.
Pointing out NITI Aayog’s North Eastern Region District Sustainable Development Goal Index, which rated Nagaland as the worst performer in poverty alleviation, health and well-being and infrastructure, she said the youth are suffering due to rampant corruption and lack of development.
She said sportspersons in the state have no access to world-class sporting facilities and no efforts made on job creation as well.
Shrinate reiterated the Congress’ manifesto, which includes: increase monthly old age pension to INR 3000, mini secretariat in Tuensang, full and timely payment of MGNREGA dues, interest-free loans for higher education, clean drinking water to every household, compulsory vocational youth training after HSLC, and review demand for Old Pension Scheme.
‘It is time for the people of Nagaland to hold those in power accountable and elect a government that will work for their development and progress,’ she added.
