ICFAI University Nagaland holds webinar on gender act
Dimapur, Sep. 23 (EMN): The History department of ICFAI University Nagaland (IUN) organised a webinar on September 21 on ‘Law and Gender Question Act 1981’ with Dr. Neetha Rani, assistant professor at School of Gender Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Hyderabad, as the guest speaker.
An update from the university informed that the guest speaker, in her talk, addressed the position of women in India throughout the 19th century. Dr. Rani presented a comprehensive analysis of the Age of Consent Act of 1891 from the Indian and British perspectives.
She also highlighted the August 15, 1884, Malabari notes, outlining the dangers of child marriage and forced widowhood.
There was also a discussion on Rukhmabai’s case study of the rape and murder of Phulmoni (1889) and the Restitution of Conjugal Rights (1884–1888).
The webinar was chaired by Dr. Khrienuo, head of History department.
