Kohima, Sep. 7 (EMN): In an attempt to make a ‘final push’ to the government of India for a solution to the protracted Naga political issue before the state assembly election in the first quarter of next year, a delegation of legislators from Nagaland led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio are in the national capital to meet Home Minister Amit Shah.
It was informed that Nagaland Chief Minister met with his Assamese counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also the convenor of North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), before leaving for Delhi.
A reliable source had earlier told this newspaper that the delegation from the Core Committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue would include Deputy CM Y Patton, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Chairman TR Zeliang, UDA co-chairman and leader of Naga People’s Front (NPF) legislature party Kuzholuzo Nienu, and few legislators from Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), NPF and Independent.
It added that the delegation had sought the PMO for an appointment to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the Naga issue.
It may be mentioned that the parliamentary committee on Naga political issue had passed a four-point resolution at its meeting on July 16 this year, requesting the negotiating parties to arrive at a mutually acceptable definition of competencies to resolve the issue at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Patton tweeted that he had called on President of India Droupadi Murmu, congratulated her on becoming the first tribal to occupy India’s highest office, and discussed various issues.
“Our meeting was a significant one that addressed the concerns of the people of Nagaland. She also extended her heartfelt gratitude to the people of the State for their unwavering support to her candidature during the Presidential election,” he wrote.
